A CBC News special on Canada's deadliest attack

Social Sharing

40 years after the Air India bombing, most Canadians say they know little or nothing about the bombings that had their origins in their country. On June 23, 1985, a bomb exploded on an airplane carrying 329 passengers and crew, mostly Canadians. There were no survivors.

A CBC News special uncovers the long term impact of the attacks by reconstructing a minute-by-minute account of the bombing of Air India 182.

Stories and truth from Indigenous creators

Social Sharing

June may be coming to a end but it's still National Indigenous History Month, a time to celebrate and commemorate the heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding achievements of Indigenous Peoples from coast to coast to coast.

Monique Gray Smith is an author and storyteller of Cree, Lakota and Scottish heritage who often writes and speaks about the resilience of Indigenous communities.

The Victoria-based Smith is known for her children's books which take a gentle approach to empathy, resilience and informing young Canadians of the legacy of the residential school system in Canada.

In 2021, Smith spoke with CBC Radio's The Next Chapter after the devastating confirmation of unmarked graves at several former residential schools in Canada. She talked about how books by Indigenous creators encourage children to show love and support for each other.

In a follow up to that interview, Smith curated a list of 45 books featuring Indigenous authors and illustrators who identify as women and/or two-spirit. Stay booked and busy and browse the list at cbc.ca/radio/thenextchapter.

So to help anyone looking to lighten up their rooms for warm-weather living and entertaining — without buying a bunch of new things — CBC Life recruited the advice of designers and stylists Sean Symington, Paige Wassel and Kaela Shaw.
