At CBC Vancouver, CBC Radio One’s The Early Edition is kicking off our Asian Heritage Month coverage with its special series, Stories We Live: Representing Asian Voices and Faces – an exploration of the representation of Asian-Canadians in media.

The annual event, held online on May 5, will honour Dr. Theresa Tam and Dr. Cindy Blackstock as well as two mothers from the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program, Nusrat Awan and Jessica Seegerts.

An avid spearfisher, Chin decided to start crabbing here. The result? Learning to tolerate frigid Pacific Northwest waters and the revival of a family recipe for Singaporean Chilli Crab: a meal that pays homage to his parents and extended family.

The English and fine arts teacher's short story navigates the delicate nuances of pregnancy loss and was selected by the jurors from nearly 3,000 entries.
As the grand-prize winner, Chong receives $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and a writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
