What to do if you face a roadblock while writing

"If you face a roadblock while writing, incorporate the problem you’re encountering into the poem.

"If there is hesitation to speak, mark the hesitation. If you can’t settle on a word or phrase, let the indecision itself seep to the surface.

"You might keep all the words you are deliberating between or speak to the impossibility of choice so that the process of making becomes part of the made.

"If you are disinclined to exposed fault lines, you can always erase these occasions in the editing phase. In the meantime, the living hand is kept in motion."

Eimear Laffan's [about]ness was published by McGill-Queen's University Press in 2023.
