| Have multiple genres in your repertoire | | | "I’d encourage other writers to take a chance and write outside their go-to genre(s). Although I primarily write fiction and nonfiction, I also write poetry, humour and the occasional comic.
"It can be helpful (and fun) to have multiple genres in your repertoire — you can approach a particular idea from different angles and see which genre is the best fit.
"I also find that writing in multiple genres means there’s almost always a genre to suit my mood or energy level for a writing session.
"Although I might not be in the mood to draft new fiction that day, I might be in the mood to revise a humour piece or do research for an essay. It helps to keep me productive and engaged." | | Nicole Boyce's work has appeared in CV2, The Dalhousie Review, EVENT, The Fiddlehead, Grain, Joyland, The Malahat Review, McSweeney's Internet Tendency, Prairie Fire, Riddle Fence and more.
