Move words around

"Throw words down. Play with them. Move them around. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Invent wildly. Have fun. Forget profundity, themes and meaning.

"Poetry is not deadly stuff. Use the compost of your life. Edit ruthlessly. Nothing is sacred."

Patricia Young has twice been nominated for the Governor General's Literary Award for poetry. In 1988, Young placed second for the CBC Poetry Prize. She appeared on the CBC Poetry Prize longlist in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2020 and 2023.

The 2024 CBC Poetry Prize is now open!

You could win $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, attend a two-week writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and have your work published on CBC Books. The deadline to enter is Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 4:59 p.m. ET.
