Kyo Lee writes about being a queer Korean Canadian — now she's the youngest ever CBC Poetry Prize winner

Kyo Lee, a high school student from Waterloo, Ont., has won the 2023 CBC Poetry Prize for her poem lotus flower blooming into breasts. She will receive $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts.

Emily Riddle went from CBC Poetry Prize finalist to winning the $10K Canadian First Book Prize

Emily Riddle is a nêhiyaw writer who is a member of the Alexander First Nation (Kipohtakaw) in Treaty Six Territory. Riddle won the first-ever Griffin Poetry Prize Canadian First Book Prize for her debut poetry collection The Big Melt. 

She had previously made the 2020 CBC Poetry Prize shortlist and her CBC Poetry Prize entry, Learning to Count, is featured in The Big Melt.

The First Page is a national writing competition for Grades 7 to 12 students in Canada. Students are invited to write the first page of a novel, imagining how present-day issues and trends have played out 150 years in the future.
