Rob Norman, co-creator of acclaimed comedy podcast Personal Best, is back with his new series Limited Capacity. Limited Capacity is a collection of six short stories about the dark and strange ways we interact with the internet. It blurs the lines between psychological horror, thriller and mockumentary. It’s like Black Mirror or The Twilight Zone – but for your ears. Rob Norman talks about making the comedy-to-horror leap and the series’ unusual production process in this Q&A. We’ve already released two episodes for you to dive into.

What We're Listening To

Jason Paris, coordinator at CBC Podcasts, recommends Toronto Mike'd:

Photo of Jason Paris standing in between oversized CBC Music headphones at an installation. There are multicolour lights on the wall and he is wearing a green flannel shirt. Beside him is the Toronto Mike'd logo which is indigo with a microphone.

“This is true media geek talk for those of us who grew-up listening, watching and absorbing public and private media in Greater Toronto. Whether it be reminiscing about CFNY's idiosyncratic Martin Streek, speculating about the new hosts of CHFI's re-launched morning show, or deep diving with Rick Mercer into his new book, Mike Boon is your guy! He's also really come into his own over the years as a great interviewer who doesn't let his podcast ever fit into a predetermined time format.”

Podcast Pairing

Earlier this week, conspiracy theorist and radio broadcaster Alex Jones was found liable in four defamation cases. The cases were led by the families of victims of the Sandy Hook massacre; Jones has repeatedly falsely claimed that the 2012 shooting was a hoax.

How did we get here? Our series The Flamethrowers tells the story of how right-wing radio radicalized America; “Ep. 3: the Information Wars” focuses specifically on Jones. You can hear how the way he talked about the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing foreshadows how he’d react to Sandy Hook. As host Justin Ling puts it, “Oklahoma City became a critical launch point for an empire built on imagined conspiracies.”

Your parting podcast quote:
"One of the weirdest statistics that I came across is that people with master’s degrees have 10% higher mortality rates than people with PhDs.”
– Michael Hobbes on “Is Being Fat Bad For You?” from Maintenance Phase
