The Last Resort At The Waldorf

Presented by Dreamqueen Collective, The Last Resort follows a group of cruise ship passengers who find themselves sailing into the Bermuda Triangle in 1971, to be never heard from again. Audience members find themselves wandering through the historical Waldorf Hotel, which may or may not be the afterlife. Director Fairlith Harvey takes us through this immersive theatre experience, and explains how her time in the funeral industry informed the audience's interaction with the actors during the show.

The Last Resort opens At The Waldorf in Vancouver on Nov. 10, and runs again on Nov. 17 and 24.

The Bears and the Magic Masks

Award-winning writer Joseph Dandurand and illustrator Elinor Atkins join us to talk about their new children's book, The Bears and the Magic Masks. Serving as the fourth entry in the Kwantlen Stories Then and Now series, the book chronicles the longstanding relationship between bears and the Kwantlen First Nation. When bears rescue a master carver from falling into a river, the carver gifts the bears a set of animal masks. Unbeknownst to the bears, the masks possess magical abilities.

We'll hear Dandurand and Atkins talk about what inspired this new story, and how important literature is for preserving Indigenous knowledge and traditions.
