Easter weekend music, digging into the Britannia Mine Museum, and storytelling with Kung Jaadee

NXNW March 30, 2024

Hopping into your inbox, it's the NXNW newsletter! Margaret Gallagher will return next weekend. Jeremy Ratt will be your host for this Saturday's show, and it's a thoughtful one.

We're speaking with a Calgary filmmaker, North Vancouver City Library's Indigenous storyteller in-residence, and we’ll be closing out this year's March Museums series with a chat about the Britannia Mine Museum!

NOTE: We won't have an NXNW show this Sunday. In its place, we’ll be bringing you Heart Language from Whitehorse with host Jared Monkman. The program will weave stories and conversations about language, and how it nurtures, connects and sustains us. Heart Language runs from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. PT.

Coming up on the show this weekend:

Saturday

Filmmaker Levi Holwell takes us through Alberta's struggling independent movie houses in the new Absolutely Canadian film “Magic Hours,” streaming on CBC Gem.

Lead actor Josh Epstein gives us a sneak peek at the Tony award-winning musical “Parade,” running at Vancouver’s Raincity Theatre until April 13.

In the final entry of this year's March Museums series, Derek Jang unearths the many attractions and exhibits you can find at the Britannia Mine Museum, located in Britannia Beach on the Sea-to-Sky Highway.

Kung Jaadee unpacks teachings of loving yourself, writing, and the importance of family as North Vancouver City Library's Indigenous Storyteller in Residence.

Museums - Britannia Mine Museum

Closing out our March Museums series (for now) we unearthed a chat with Derek Jang. He’s the manager of interpretive services at the museum located at Britannia Beach between Vancouver and Whistler.

Jang shared some of the fun Easter programming planned for this weekend, such as a special seasonal underground tour, a scavenger hunt, and a “Colours of Copper” demonstration that shows how and why copper turns blue in wet environments!

The Britannia Mine Museum, just off of the Sea-to-Sky Highway between Vancouver and Whistler, has special activities planned this weekend.

Parade: The Musical comes to Raincity Theatre

This week on NXNW, actor Josh Epstein joins us to chat about starring in the Tony award-winning musical Parade, which is at Vancouver's Raincity Theatre until April 13th.

Parade tells the tragic yet compelling true story of the trial and lynching of an innocent man accused of murder, brought to tangible life on Raincity's intimate stage.

Parade: The Musical runs at the Raincity Theatre in Vancouver until April 13.

In case you missed it...

Last week on NXNW, we checked in with Swing Blues Boogie Jazz duo Blue Moon Marquee from Vancouver Island. They were nominated for Blues Album of the Year and Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year in last weekend’s Juno Awards - and they won both!

Stream this interview via CBC Listen.

The swing, blues, boogie, jazz duo Blue Moon Marquee   A.W. Cardinal and Jasmine Colette won two Juno awards.

Have a great Easter Weekend!
