Moon of the Turning Leaves, Murchies Tea & Coffee, and Plato Filipino

NXNW Nov. 4-5, 2023

Hey everyone! Hope you had a fun and safe time celebrating Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. We've got another great show ready to go for you this weekend. There's a guide to the hot springs of B.C., another entry in our Breakfast Club column, and a chat with author Waubgeshig Rice!

Looking for something from a previous show? Be sure to check out our archive, or stop by our CBC Listen page.

Coming up on the show this weekend:

Award-winning author Waubgeshig Rice follows up his bestseller book Moon of the Crusted Snow with a new sequel, Moon of the Turning Leaves.

Father-and-son duo Glenn and David Woodsworth share their love of the B.C. backcountry with the fourth edition of "Hot Springs of Western Canada."

Saltspring Island author Aurelia Louvet and her daughter Chloe serve up simple meals and more with "Let's Eat: Recipes for Kids Who Cook."

NXNW's Margaret Gallagher visits tea blender A.J. Ward at the Murchies Tea & Coffee headquarters, as part of our new November Hot Drinks series.

Architecture critic Trevor Boddy gives us a preview of a new documentary film about the celebrated architect Arthur Erikson and one his earliest works, the Dyde House.

In the latest entry of our Breakfast Club column, story producer Jeremy Ratt connects with Bennet Miemban-Ganata, owner of Plato Filipino in Burnaby and New Westminster.

"Hot Springs of Western Canada" continues celebrating B.C. beauty with fourth edition

Geologist Glenn Woodsworth and son David Woodsworth have just released a new edition of "Hot Springs of Western Canada," a comprehensive guide to roughly 115 hot springs, most of them in B.C. It's a labour of love that reflects their decades of exploring the backcountry. They joined us in the NXNW studio earlier this week.

Hot Drinks - Murchies Coffee & Tea

In the first entry of our November Hot Drinks series, NXNW's Margaret Gallagher headed to Murchies Coffee & Tea headquarters, located in Delta, B.C.
She connected with A.J. Ward, who works as the company's Head Tea Blender!

"Arthur Erikson's Dyde House" celebrates a near-forgotten treasure of the celebrated architect

Arthur Erickson was the mind behind some of the most iconic West coast buildings, including Robson Square, Simon Fraser University, and the Museum of Anthropology. And this week on NXNW, architecture critic and curator Trevor Boddy joins us to discuss his role in the new documentary "Arthur Erikson's Dyde House," which celebrates an almost forgotten treasure from the architect's early years.

The film makes its Vancouver premiere at the Architecture and Design Film Festival next week.
