The non-profit organization that took over operations at the Whitehorse emergency shelter in 2022 discontinued some procedures at the facility, including an overdose response procedure, a coroner's inquest heard this week.

In a public notice Thursday afternoon, the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority announced any patients with blood-related cancer who are not in active treatment — meaning those who need regular bloodwork to monitor their condition — will now be sent to Alberta for care instead.

Fire investigation reports from the N.W.T. fire marshal's office, obtained through an access to information request, show the properties in Yellowknife and Hay River both had work done to their propane systems for which the necessary permits and inspections were not carried out.
