This year’s Polaris Music Prize winner has been chosen, and it is Montreal-via-Calgary singer-songwriter Yves Jarvis.
"I was just honoured just to be nominated at all," he said while accepting the $30,000 award at Massey Hall in Toronto Tuesday. "I'm shocked."
It’s his first win, after being longlisted twice for past albums. It was a big Polaris night, as multiple award winners were announced: Mustafa won the inaugural Polaris Song Prize for his track Gaza Is Calling, and the winners of the Heritage prize were announced.
Head to CBCMusic.ca/Polaris for full coverage of the 2025 events. And if you missed the evening — or want to relive them — you can watch the entire show in full. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Nine of the shortlisted artists took the stage for the 20th edition of the Polaris Music Prize, and you can watch them all via our YouTube channel. | | | | | | | | | | | | | Despite guest appearances in other musicians' performances at Coachella over the years, Bieber has never had his own official set at the Indio, Calif., festival — but 2026 is his year. | | | | | | | | | | | | | That's what we asked at the TIFF premiere of the documentary Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery, which is streamable now on CBC Gem. | | | | | | | | | | | | | Songs you need to hear is CBC Music's weekly list of hot new Canadian tracks, and this week we're focusing on new music from some of the artists longlisted and shortlisted for the 2025 Polaris Music Prize. | | | | | | | | | | | | | The indie-rock sibling duo will (finally!) release a debut album this January, and we caught up with Mercedes and Phoenix Arn-Horn to find out who they’re listening to these days. | | | | | | | | | | | | | As you know, the 2025 Polaris Music Prize was handed out earlier this week at the legendary Massey Hall in Toronto — and CBC Music Live has a highlights special for you that includes performances by the OBGMs, Yves Jarvis, Marie Davidson, Saya Gray and more. | | | | | | | | | | | | | In an interview with The National’s Ian Hanomansing, the Canadian singer-songwriter talks about the moment she feared she had lost her voice forever. | | | | | | | | | | | | | Chappell Roan's celebrated shout-out to Saskatchewan has been pushed out of first place by Peguis First Nation singer William Prince. Roan’s track The Subway now sits at No. 2 after just one week at the top, while On Rolls the Wheel, a road trip tune fuelled by Prince’s rich baritone (and a song that also curiously features a mention of Saskatchewan in the lyrics), is now in the lead position. AP Dhillon's Punjabi party anthem Thodi Si Daaru is also charging up the chart, close behind at No. 3. Entering the Top 20 this week are new songs by Bella Coola's Caley Watts, Vancouver singer Jade LeMac, and Grammy and Oscar winner Jon Batiste. | | | | | | | Thanks so much for joining us for this issue of Listen Up!
