King Charles is about to be crowned. Here are 5 facts about the coronation

 

On May 6, at Westminster Abbey in London, England, a new British monarch will be crowned for the first time in 70 years. A full eight months after Queen Elizabeth’s death, her son, King Charles, will be at the centre of an elaborate coronation ceremony that is expected to attract millions of viewers. People are already camping out to catch a glimpse. But isn’t Charles already King? Why isn’t everyone on board with the coronation, despite all the hubbub? Here are five surprising facts about the coronation.

On the first Monday in May, celebrities flock to the Met Gala, an annual fundraiser for the Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum in New York City. The party is a night of fashion, glitz and glamour, and for this year’s event … cats. Doja Cat dressed as a real-life cat and Jared Leto donned a head-to-toe cat costume resembling a famous cat named Choupette. Why all the cat outfits? It’s a nod to this year’s theme, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. Karl Lagerfeld is not only celebrated for his contributions to fashion but is well known for his famous cat, Choupette. But the May 1 event wasn't without controversy: Lagerfeld has been criticized for making remarks that were sexist, racist and fatphobic. Want to know more? PHOTOS — Patch wins beautiful bulldog contest

 

King Charles isn’t the only one being crowned this spring! On April 24, this rescue dog named Patch won Drake University’s Beautiful Bulldog Contest. The two-year-old British bulldog beat out 28 other contestants during the annual pageant in Des Moines, Iowa. Patch wore a jean jacket when she strutted down the runway and a satin cape and crown after she won.
