There’s a giant Cheeto statue in Alberta. Huh?

 

The small town of Cheadle, Alberta (population 92), has a pretty big guest. On Oct. 4, they welcomed a five-metre-tall statue of a hand holding a massive Cheeto. The statue is part of a marketing move by Cheetos. But why Cheadle? And why has the statue now gone viral?

Poems by Black kids brought to life in new animated series

 
Last year, Egypt Morgan, 15, accepted an invitation from poet Ian Keteku to be part of a writing project. “He told me, ‘You’re going to make a poem, we’re going to give it to the artist, they’re going to create something with it.’” Now, her words and voice are accompanied by a colourful original animation in a new CBC Gem series called Dreams in Vantablack. The series features poems by Black youth. CBC Kids News spoke with three of the artists featured in the series about why it’s important to showcase young Black artists.

WATCH — Conservationists fight to preserve rare Cuban crocodile

 
While it may grow up to be a five-metre-long predator, this Cuban crocodile hatchling is currently the length of your forearm. Scientists say the species, found only in Cuba, will vanish forever without continued efforts at conservation. With only approximately 4,000 Cuban crocodiles left in the wild, the species is critically endangered, according to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
