How writing helped Lore Segal survive a traumatic wartime childhood

Born in 1928 Vienna, acclaimed writer Lore Segal turned ten a few days before Hitler’s army annexed Austria. She soon found herself on the first Kindertransport, which took 500 Jewish children out of Austria. For several years, Segal lived in England, the Dominican Republic and the U.S. before reuniting with her family. A fictionalized account of this experience became Segal's first book, Other People's Houses, published in 1964.
Segal spoke to Writers & Company’s Eleanor Wachtel from New York in 2013.

The Goodreads plot that tanked a writer's debut

Goodreads, an online platform where users can post book reviews and interact with their favourite authors, generally has a wholesome brand and can also give authors a big boost in publicity. But when anything gets as popular and powerful as Goodreads has become, it turns out there will be people who try to game the system.
On Commotion, host Elamin Abdelmahmoud is joined by writers Jael Richardson, Syrus Marcus Ware and Sarah-Tai Black to talk about the drama.
