Suzette Mayr, Iain Reid among finalists for $25K Governor General's Literary Awards

Calgary writer Suzette Mayr and Ontario writer Iain Reid are among the finalists for the 2023 Governor General's Literary Awards. 
 
The prizes are awarded in seven English-language categories and seven French-language categories across genres. A total of $450,000 is awarded across all the prizes annually. The winners will be announced on Nov. 8, 2023.

21 books that shed light on the untold stories of Black Canadians

This fall, CBC Docs is launching Black Life: Untold Stories, an eight-part docu-series about the Black experience in Canada. Black Life dives deep into some of the little-known history of Black Canadians and how they've helped shape the country over the past 400 years.

Ts’msyen writer Kim Spencer took home three prizes at the 2023 Canadian Children’s Book Awards for her debut novel, Weird Rules to Follow. The seven awards, which include prizes for picture books, nonfiction and YA, annually celebrate the best in Canadian children's literature.

Canadian writers Zarqa Nawaz, Emily Riddle among winners for 2023 High Plains Book Awards

Zarqa Nawaz and Emily Riddle are among the six Canadian winners of the 2023 High Plains Book Awards.
Established in 2006, the annual awards recognize regional authors and/or literary works that examine and reflect life on the High Plains in North America. The award program recognizes books in 13 categories, including nonfiction, fiction, poetry, children's books, photography and short stories.
