Learn from others

"Take writing classes. If possible, take ones taught by notable Canadian authors. Listen, pick their brains. Learn the tools of writing practice that are being taught and put them in your writing craft toolbox. Use them all the time. Write like crazy."

Pamela van der Woude was the winner of the 2015 Writers' Union of Canada short story contest and shortlisted for the 2018 Room Magazine short story contest. She is currently revising her second novel which takes place in Prince Edward Island. Van der Woude was on the 2025 CBC Short Story Prize longlist.
