First Nations chiefs protest an Alberta bill, taking concerns to Ottawa

A group of First Nations chiefs is taking its opposition to Bill 54 to Ottawa. The proposed legislation would make it easier for citizens to introduce a referendum, including one on Alberta independence. Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations Grand Chief Greg Desjarlais hopes to meet with with King Charles, while the monarch is in Canada to deliver the Throne Speech.

The darker side of e-scooters

Dr. Erin Bristow, an emergency physician and an assistant clinical professor at the University of Alberta's department of medicine, recently studied e-scooter injuries and emergency department visits in Edmonton.

 

Why some Edmonton parents say a $15 flat-rate fee for daycare isn’t saving them money

In April, the Alberta government brought in a $15 flat-rate fee for daycare. It’s a partnership with the federal government and the province that is meant to help parents pay for affordable childcare. But parents say the plan isn’t actually more affordable — instead they’ve been hit with additional fees and fewer options.
